Safic H1 profit up 92%

AltX-listed Safic posted headline earnings per share of 8,3c for the six months ended December 31, the company said on Thursday.

Group turnover was 17% up on the comparable period in 2005, to R110-million, and attributable profit for the period was 92% higher at R5,5-million.

Safic is a combined flooring and chemicals business that listed on the JSE's AltX in November last year, after raising R15-million from institutional investors in a private placing of its shares at R1 a share.

The company supplies a range of resilient floor coverings and chemical floor maintenance and cleaning products to the construction sector, government, and the mining, engineering and hospitality industries.

Its major brands include Floorworx Africa, formerly Marley Flooring, and SA Fine and Industrial Chemicals, an ISO-accredited manufacturer and vendor of a wide range of chemical cleaning and maintenance agents.

The company said that it expected “a substantial increase in revenue over the next few years”, in light of government's mutibillion rand infrastructure investment programme.

“The group is well positioned to benefit from the funding being earmarked for such high-profile projects as Gautrain, the refurbishment of the country's existing airports - as well as the planned, new King Shaka Airport in Durban - and the broader preparation being made for the 2010 soccer World Cup,” Safic said in a statement.

Safic's shares closed 11c or 9,57% higher on Thursday, at R1,26 a share.
